Dans la nuit du 7 au 8 Novembre 1942, en Algérie et au Maroc, des patriotes organisés en groupes se sont mobilisés pour faciliter le débarquement des Alliés (américains, et britanniques sous uniforme américain). Ils réussirent à neutraliser les représentants des forces de Vichy. L’opération à Alger fut un succès, mais à Oran et à Casablanca les pertes humaines furent considérables.
Ce fut le premier débarquement allié réussi de la seconde Guerre mondiale sur le sol de France. L’action patriotique des résistants contre Vichy a contribué à ce tournant positif, mais insuffisamment connu, dans le cours de ce conflit mondial.
The facts
In the night of 7th to 8th November 1942, in Algeria and Morocco, organized patriots mobilized to facilitate the Allied landing (Americans and British under American uniform). They successfully neutralized the Vichy force representatives. Algiers operation was a success but Oran and Casablanca saw considerable casualties.
This became the first successful allied landing of the Second World War on French soil. The resistance’s patriotic action against Vichy contributed to the positive, but insufficiently known, turning point in the course of this worldwide conflict.
